What’s Needed for a Six Flags Rave?

On March 16th, 2024, Valencia, California might have been the luckiest city in the US. Their Six Flags Magic Mountain threw Thrill City, a rave at Six Flags, with 6 thrill rides open and 3 stages. It was a separate event and the Six Flags had extended hours from 8 pm - 3 am. With St. Louis having one of the biggest Six Flags in the US, what would be needed for a Six Flags rave?

What’s needed from Six Flags?

They would have to partner with some STL production companies and talk about financials, expectations, and insurance. It would be ideal to have it after hours and the staff might even be used to after-hours because of Fright Fest. However, I think extra staff to help with crowds, security, and medical would be a good idea. In terms of equipment like speakers and stage setup, it would be up to the production companies to provide.

For the location inside the theme park, the outside stages would be best. All the indoor theaters have benches. Here are the stage ideas ranked:

DC Circle: Best

The DC circle, right outside Mr. Freeze, might be the best spot for a stage. It is very open and has many paths leading to it. Plus I think it would be cool to play a DJ set in front of the Hall of Justice!

Palace Porch

This looks like a great location for an outdoor stage! There’s already some stage trusses in place and a few stairs for a slightly inclined stage. Then flat space in front of the stage for people to stand. It is also out of the way of the normal walking path.

Old Glory Stage*

The Old Glory Stage gives Red Rocks vibes! There used to be concerts here years ago, but that’s the thing it was years ago. As long as there is electricity at the stage, I could see it working. But we would need more information.

Words from people who went to the Magic Mountain Rave

I asked people on Reddit who went to the Magic Mountain rave what they thought. The general consensus was that the atmosphere, decor, and lights were great. Some highlights are seeing the stages from the crest of a roller coaster.

A couple things to improve would be to make VIP feel like VIP. Ubering is difficult, but driving there and parking was easy. Something I had not even considered is that since it was after park hours and a separate event requiring different tickets- it took people a while to leave the park. This leads to the suggestion to have it in the summer on a Friday because then the park would close at 7 instead of 9.

TL;DR: Need Six Flag’s approval to host a rave after park hours like fright fest. Plus extra staff and coordination. STL production companies would provide speakers and stage set-ups. Outdoor stages with a few thrill rides still open. Summer night on a Friday to maximize time.
